Back in November, I had the honour and privilege of meeting the makeup artist of the moment, Charlotte Tilbury. And when Charlotte herself makes a lipstick recommendation for you, you listen. Especially if that recommendation is for your wedding day. The lipstick? Matte Revolution in Red Carpet Red.
Well, she couldn’t have picked better for me if she had known me all my life! What a glorious red this is. The shade is perfectly balanced to be a true, ruby red, neither leaning cool nor warm. The bullet is shaped apparently to mimic the shape of a lip brush, enabling you to get a more precise lip line right from the bullet. I must say that this is quite true. I usually need to use a lip liner, lip brush, and do a little tidy up with concealer around the edges of my mouth to get that crisp, perfect line that’s so important with a red lip. With this baby, I didn’t need to do any of that, I simply applied straight from the tube. Magic.
The formula is one of these new generation mattes, that doesn’t tug or drag on the lips, and also doesn’t dry them out. I would actually call this more of a velvet effect lipstick, as the colour retains a lot of dimension even without shine. The formula contains triglycerides (lipids – fatty molecules) which help to keep the lipstick feeling comfortable for hours. Unlike the more classic mattes, which suck the life out of your lips leaving you looking like a pair of prunes have taken up residence beneath your nose. Ruby Woo I’m looking at you. So light and comfortable, it really feels like you’re wearing nothing at all. Stupid sexy Flanders. As a sufferer of chronic dry lips, I’m delighted to say I will be able to wear this lipstick proudly on my wedding day from morning till the next morning!
Priced at €30 each from Brown Thomas, Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipsticks are definitely on the higher end. However, the lightweight, comfortable matte formula is so worth the money. Available in a rake of shades, all designed with particular leading ladies in mind – from Jane Birkin to Victoria Beckham – simply pick the star you think you resemble the most and rock your matte lips!
