If you have aging eyelids, the name “Excess Shimmer” might strike fear into your heart. However, despite the name, these gel eyeshadows add more of a glistening sheen than a glitter bomb to your lids. And they do so gorgeously.

Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows Swatches L – R: 05 Crystal, 10 Pearl, 15 Pink Opal, 20 Copper, 25 Bronze, 30 Onyx
The formula is definitely more of a gel than a cream, being quite thin. But don’t load up your brush, because the pigmentation isΒ INTENSE. You really need just the teeniest amount to create a gorgeous metallic sheen. The drydown is quick enough to lock the colour into place, but not so quick that you can’t blend them out for a softened effect. The lasting power is excellent, though if you have oily lids I’d always recommend you apply an eyeshadow primer to ensure longevity. While the lighter shades (Crystal, Pearl and Pink Opal) are best reserved for a high impact party look, Copper, Bronze and Onyx have been my go-to daily shadows for the past couple of months. Blend Copper all over the lid and Bronze through the crease. Or simply apply Bronze all over the lid, blending out and softening into the crease for a smoky bronze look. Add Onyx on the outer-v or smudged around the lashline to add some smoky drama. Perfection. I wore this look in my Christmas Luxury Beauty Gift Guide if you’d like to see it in action.

Max Factor Excess Intensity Eyeliner Swatches L – R: Excessive Jade, Excessive Violet, Excessive Cobalt
Oh boy, do I love me these colours. I find it can be quite hard to get soft, pigmented coloured eyeliners in the pharmacy/chemist/drugstore. I usually turn to Urban Decay’s 24/7 liners for my purple, green and blue eyeliner needs. However these Max Factor Excess Intensity Eyeliners are seriously pigmented and long wearing. They’ve replaced some of my Urban Decay favourites, and that says a lot. I’m particularly a fan of the automatic twist up mechanism, as I never seem to be able to find a sharpener when I need it. Just remember, don’t twist it up too far as you may not be able to twist it back down again. See them in action below.

Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows in Copper all over the lid and Bronze through the crease. Excess Intensity Eyeliners in Violet on the upper lash line, Jade on the outer half of the lower lashline, and Cobalt on the inner half of the lower lashline.
Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows are priced at β¬9.99 and the Excess Intensity Eyeliners are priced at β¬7.99. For less than a tenner, these babies sure do deliver. Will you be picking up anything from the range?
