Remember the Apocalips? Well, I think these new Rimmel Provocalips 16 Hr Kiss Proof Lip Colours could withstand the actual apocalypse! Seriously, these babies are bombproof. Stay tuned for millions of pics, on the lip swatches and my review.
So anyone who’s been reading the blog for a while, will know of my lip dilemma. I have lips like the Sahara. Any drop of moisture that touches them is sucked up and disappears. Similarly any drying lip products will suck the life out of them so much that they resemble the kisser of a flaky corpse. Attractive. I tend to stay away from long-wear lip products for that reason, like Max Factor’s Lipfinity yokes. However I’m also lazy, and really bad at reapplying lip products. More times that I care to count I’ve arrived home after an outing with the red ring of death around my mush. Again, attractive. So I covet long-wear formulas like I do a Chanel Classic Flap. So much want, so little chance of ever rocking it. Are the Provocalips any different?
These long-wear lippie wands house a pigmented liquid lip colour on one end, and a “lock & shine” balm/gloss at the other. A two step system, you’re instructed to firstly “apply colour and keep lips apart for 60 seconds until the product sets” and then “apply topcoat to lock the colour, moisture and add shine”. The liquid colour is quite runny, but very pigmented. The applicator holds a tad too much product, so wipe it off before you apply it, unless you like The Joker from Batman look. If I’m honest the gloss end does nothing for me. It’s quite thick in the tube and the applicator can’t really get enough of it out to cover your lips in one go. You end up going back into the tube multiple times, and going over your lips so much to try and get an even application that you risk disturbing the lacquer. Kinda annoying. HOWEVER I’ve been applying my Lanolips lip balm over the colour instead (once it’s fully set) and that’s worked a charm. Try your favourite balm/Vaseline instead and see how it works. It *may* actually dissolve the colour though, so check before you leave the house!

Dare to Pink
Make Your Move
I’ll Call You
Little Minx
Kiss Me You Fool
Play With Fire
Kiss Fatal
Lock & Shine
I think you can see from the swatches that these shades are bright and hella-pigmented. I could happily wear most of them, except Dare to Pink and Kiss Fatal, which do nothing for my skintone. As for the 16 hr “kiss proof, transfer proof, food proof” promise… HOLY GOD IT’S TRUE. Seriously, these lippies withstand all onslaught. Greasy chipper, wine-age, rain in your face biking across Dublin city centre, sloppy kisses… They laugh in the face of it. In fact, when it comes time to remove them, you need a pretty decent oil based cleanser. I recommend something designed for removing waterproof mascara. I’ve had success with Clarins Instant Eye-Makeup Remover, after many fails. And what about my Kalahari kisser? It wasn’t bothered. Seriously. I’m still in shock. Girls with dry lips who can’t use long-wear products, these are your salvation. You can eat and drink and dance to your heart’s content, without worrying about losing your lippie, or your lips shrivelling up and falling off. WOO! I feel like Jasmine on her magic carpet ride, a whooole neeeeew wooooooorld for meeeeeee. The best thing about them? They’re only €8.49, and ubiquitous. I mean there’s probably more Rimmel stands than there are McDonalds in this country. And rightly so. To sum it up: vibrant, non-drying, bomb-proof, budget-friendly lip colour. I think you need these for the Christmas party season. NEED. Any other long-wear lippies I need to check out? Have you tried the Provocalips, or their predecessors, the Apocalips? Let me know in the comments!
